Vintage Porcelain Pin Money Bank Purse Hand Painted Daisy Daisies unmarked MCM TRAD Wife
Description: Vintage Porcelain Pin Money Bank Purse Hand Painted Daisies unmarked. Rubber stopper present but torn. Probably dates from 1950's - 60's and probably made in Japan. Measures 4" high and 5 1/2" wide.
Condition: Very good to excellent vintage condition; no chips, cracks, or crazing. Some very minor wear on gold painted clasp above coin slot.
Historically, pins were used to hold clothing on a person. Nobility had very ornate pins made of precious metals and jewels, commoners had plain ones made of bone. For centuries the custom prevailed for fathers, husbands and admirers to give either pins for presents to women, or a gift of money with which to buy pins – in short, pin money. The expression thus came into our language to describe the extra money women may be given to spend exactly as they wish.
Perfect bridal gift of "something old" for the traditional wife with an interesting history. Or, Grandma Chic decor for bedroom or guest room.
